How to fix & update vintage bakelite phones?
I can not hear the caller's voice nor can they hear me very well. The handset seems to be extremely close and I am unable to get it back. My phone is an original 332nd It was from a dealer bought and had no plug, it's been fitted, but I'm unsure of the pen selection. I'm currently using white and green to red 2 to 6 and to 3 Thanks.

Located in Western North Carolina, Asheville is a small, eclectic community with a large variety of artists and craftspeople. We have quite a concentration of jewelers who make Asheville their home. One of the more interesting concepts we have seen in this area is the combination of Argentium Sterling Silver with vintage Bakelite by Sharon Bailey.
Bakelite is the first synthetic plastic introduced in the 20's and used extensively in the 30's and 40's. It's extremely durable and rich in color. To quote Sharon, "It feels warm and heavy, inviting the touch and giving it a sex appeal not found in later plastics." This makes it ideal for handmade jewelry, and since production virtually ceased in the 60's, it's a collectors item. Sharon collects the unused old stock for use in many of her pieces, mainly in Argentium sterling silver.
Sterling silver is traditionally 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper, hence the traditional number we see on most silver, 925. Argentium is a new type of silver alloy patented by the Argentium Silver Company located in the UK, that replaces some of the copper with germanium while still keeping 92.5% silver. Keeping this amount of silver in the metal allows it to still be called sterling.
Argentium sterling is far more resistant to tarnish, a drawback of silver that has plagued jewelers and buyers ever since it's been used, and so requires much less frequent cleaning. This is a true breakthrough for ease of use and maintenance free wear.
Combining Argentium sterling silver with vintage Bakelite creates a very unique look without a lot of expense. Bakelite is easy to carve and manipulate with traditional jeweler tools, which lends itself to creating Sharon's line of jewelry inspired by the Blue Ridge Mountains around Asheville. In addition, anything with Bakelite is a true collectors item. Silver is going up in price alongside gold, but there is still no comparison in price. Now that we have an option with tarnish resistance there is even more reason to buy silver.
